EKITI L-PRES LAUNCHES STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT ON ANTHRAX VACCINATION IN THE STATE

In a bid to prevent the outbreak of anthrax disease in Ekiti State, the Ekiti State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project has embarked on a stakeholders engagement campaign on Anthrax disease which brought together key stakeholders in the livestock sector including Cattle, Sheep and goats farmers and Veterinarians.

Speaking at the event in Ado Ekiti, State Project Coordinator, L-PRES Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, emphasized the importance of anthrax vaccination in preventing the spread of the disease.

Adedipe described Anthrax as a serious disease that can have devastating consequences for livestock and humans alike, noting that vaccination is a crucial step in preventing its spread of the disease.

He advised the stakeholders in the livestock sector to take advantage of vaccination by allowing Veterinarians to vaccinate their animals to avoid the outbreak of the disease by preventing the spread of the deadly disease to the State.

Earlier, the Director of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Emmanuel Osayomi highlighted the role of the ministry in supporting the vaccination campaign.

He said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is committed to supporting the L-PRES project in its efforts to prevent the outbreak of anthrax in Ekiti State.

Also speaking at the event, the Animal Health Officer, L-PRES, Dr. Oluwarotimi Oluwaseun provided insight into the vaccination process, emphasizing the need for livestock farmers to cooperate with the vaccination team.

He urged all livestock farmers to bring their animals for vaccination noting that this is a critical step in preventing the spread of anthrax disease in the State.

In their responses, the Chairman Fulani/ Ilorin Ekiti State Chapter, Alfa Tayo Aliyu and State Chairman, National Association of Sheep and goats Development of Nigeria (NASHGODAN), Alhaji Elias Bello all promised to work in relation with government officials for vaccination of their animals.

The stakeholders engagement campaign is part of the L-PRES project’s efforts to enhance livestock productivity and resilience in Ekiti State.
