Ekiti Warns School Administrators Against Involvement in examination malpractices

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission (TSC), Mrs Rhoda Ojo has warned that severe sanction await any school administrator caught aiding or engaging in examination malpractices in schools in the state.

Mrs Ojo who gave the warning during a series of meetings the commission held with the leadership of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools( ANCOPSS), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Non- Academic Staff Union (NASU), Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) and Coordinating Principals in Ado Ekiti, said hard times also await any principal or teacher caught collecting illegal fees from students in public schools in the State

The Chairman lamented the widespread reports of examination malpractices in Schools across the nation, stressing that the present administration in the State has zero tolerance for examination malpractices and any form of sharp practices under any guise.

She noted that the State is famed for being the home of education in Nigeria and the people of the State are also known the world over as hardworking , honest and trust worthy people, thus there was need to ensure that the legacy of the State over the years is preserved .

According to her ,” any principal, teacher or school administrator found to be actively or passively involved in examination malpractices and illegal collection of fees would be severely sanctioned in line with the extant rules of the State Public Service”, Ojo stated

The TSC Chairman who said that the Governor, Mr Biodun oyebanji has directed that the examination malpractices which is fast becoming a national malaise should not be allowed to have a foothold in schools in the State disclosed that government has in addition embarked on some far reaching Programmes aimed at stamping out sharp practices and indiscipline completely from public schools in the state.

Mrs Ojo called on labour unions and other Stakeholders in the sector to join hands with the commission to ensure the successes of the various intervention programmes of the Oyebanji administration in the Sector

While reminding them of the extant rules guiding illegal collection of fees, corporal punishment and unauthorized usage of schools facilities for social and other engagements, Mrs Ojo cautioned schools’ administrators from sending students out of examination centres to enforce fees collection.

She admonished them to look inward to boost their internally generated revenue through agricultural activities and school enterprise projects, adding that the running grants released to the schools should be expended on facility maintenance and other official engagements.

She suggested that each school should have facility desk officer who would be responsible for day to day maintenance of facilities in the school for sustainability.

In his comments, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Michael Boluwade assured that plans are ongoing to complete the process of 2022/2023 promotion of staff, stressing that the cause of the delay in the exercise has been taken care of.

Mr Boluwade informed the stakeholders that arrangements are under way for redistribution of teaching and non teaching staff to meet some observed short falls in staffing situation of some schools across the state.

In their responses, the leadership of the various associations, unions and groups pledged their support for the steps of government in the education sector and assured that they were ready to join hands with the commission to rid the school system of indiscipline, examination malpractices and other social vices associated with the sector.

They appealed to the commission to expedite action on their promotion, recruitment of more teaching and non teaching staff as well as conversion of qualified personnel to other relevant cadres within the system.
