OYEBANJI RESTATES COMMITMENT TO WELFARE OF RETIREES

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has re-affirmed his unwavering commitment to improving the living standards of the citizens particularly the retirees across the state.

Oyebanji stated this in Ado-Ekiti at the quarterly prayer summit of the State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners

The Governor who was represented by the State Head of Service, Engr.Sunday Komolafe noted that his administration has demonstrated high level commitment, love and care for the senior citizens as witnessed in the upward review of monthly pension of Pensioners in the State to ten thousand naira minimum as against the previous situation where some pensioners received paltry sums of less than five hundred naira per month while Government had also paid over N3.3b as gratuities to state and local government pensioners in the past 18 months

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of pensioners, Comrade Joel Akinola expressed appreciation to the Governor for the regular and prompt payment of monthly pension which according to him had enabled pensioners to meet their basic needs and provide them hope of collecting their benefits while alive.

Akinola also lauded the present administration for it’s various policies targeted at the senior citizens which include: free Medicare for pensioners , monthly payment of #10,000 palliative for all members, provision of food palliative to the vulnerable, payment of arrears of pension, appointment of a pensioner as an Advisor on pension matters among others which according to him attests to the fact that the Governor was God-sent at this critical moment in the history of pensioners in the State.

While commending the government for it’s giant strides, the chairman passionately appealed to the Governor to redouble his efforts towards the payment of outstanding gratuities and other deductions owed by previous administrations to the union and it’s members .

The quarterly prayer summit 2024 with the theme “Peace and Joy In Old Age” featured press briefing, praise and worship session, rendition of special hymns, words of exhortation, Bible and Quran reading and goodwill message among others.
