The Executive Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi has called on head teachers of public primary schools in the state to ensure they fully comply with the free and compulsory education policy of the Oyebanji Administration as well as all
Government programmes in the day to day administration of their schools.

Prof. Akinwumi during a meeting with some head teachers in Ado Ekiti said as key implementers and custodians of government policies in the basic education sector, they are expected to lead by example and ensure that all their staff follow suit.

He urged the teachers to always have confidence in themselves while performing their official duties and avoid any misleading instruction that could make them run foul of government policies and extant rules of the Ekiti State Public Service

“You are first and foremost staff of Ekiti SUBEB . As public officers, there are proper channels of communication. You are responsible to the Education Secretaries, and any directive that does not come from the Board through the Education Secretaries is null and void and should be disregarded.”

“You are not responsible to any PTA or SBMC.
You must have confidence in yourself and be on top of the affairs in your schools. Whenever you are in doubt, seek clearance from the appropriate quarters”, he said.

Prof. Akinwumi who urged head teacher and other staff public schools to redouble their efforts in giving the pupils sound education emphasized that pupils in public primary schools across the state deserved the best form of education as they are assets of the state.

He re-echoed Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration’s deliberate policy to encourage basic education for children especially in the face of global economic meltdown, urging for support by the headteachers as major stakeholders.

The SUBEB boss noted that the sacrifice for the children is a promise for a better future, adding that stakeholders ought to, of necessity, invest in children to reap the benefits of a rapid national growth which in turn will be the pride of all.
Prof. Akinwumi therefore advised the headteachers against collection of unauthorized fees from the pupils in order to continue to encourage unhindered access to basic education in the state, warning that anyone caught in the act will face grave consequence to serve as deterrent for others.
