EKITI L-PRES PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION UNIT MEMBERS PRESENTS APPROVED 2024 ANNUAL WORK PLAN & BUDGET TO MEMBERS OF STATE STEERING COMMITTEE

The Ekiti State Project Implementation Unit of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) programme has presented its 2024 Annual Work Plan and Budget to the State Steering Committee.

Speaking during the presentation of the Annual Work Plan and Budget to members of the Committee in Ado-Ekiti , the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, who also doubles as Chairman State Steering Committee, said that the documents were recently approved by the World Bank.

Mr. Boluwade highlighted the projects approved to include the establishment of Operational Central Cattle Market and provision of Ultra- modern Abattoir Markets along Iworoko Road , Ado Ekiti and another one Omuooke at Omuo Ekiti with well equipped State of the art Veterinary Clinic services are part of the activities approved.

He affirmed that the projects would guarantee the sale of wholesome, safe and hygienic beef (meat) and dairy products in the State when they become operational.

Earlier in his remarks, the State Project Coordinator L-PRES, Mr. Olayinka Adedipe highlighted poultry, beef/dairy, Pig, sheep and goat as the preference value chain of the State.

Adedipe also itemized the key Performance Indicators (KPI) and five Components with Sub-Components of the project as embedded in the approved Work Plan.

He emphasized that Extension Agents have been trained on Mapping and Profiling to serve as enumerators for livestock farmers in the State and this would be taken further by conducting the needs assessment of various groups/ cooperatives and clusters.

In her remark, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Peju Babafemi called on Women and youths in the livestock value chain to leverage on the project to improve their livelihood.

The Special Adviser on Security, Gen. Ebenezer Ogunlade (Rtd) expressed appreciation to the World Bank for making crisis mitigation a major component in the L- PRES project.

He said that the State Government had passed anti- grazing law and constituted Ekiti State Farmers/Herders Peace Committee that would leverage on the assistance from the World Bank to find lasting solutions to Farmers/ Herder Crisis in the State.

Also speaking,the Chairman of the Ekiti State Poultry Association of Nigeria,Mr. Oluwasetemi Alonge lauded the Project Implementation Unit Members, L-PRES for achievements recorded so far and charged them to capture more livestock farmers across the preferred value chains.
