PREPARATORY FOR THE COMMENCEMENT OF 5KM ROAD PROJECTS IN LGAS , LCDAS ;EKITI HOLDS COMMUNITY CONSULTATIONS

As part of concerted efforts to improve road transport across the 16 Local Government Areas and 22 Local Council Development Areas in the State, stakeholders in the third tier of government have commenced community engagements to determine the needs of the people with regards to roads.

Addressing stakeholders at the flag off of the Community Engagement meeting in Ido-Ekiti ,the State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs (LGA) Hon Folorunso Olabode explained that the essence of the community consultations was to allow citizens and stakeholders of all council areas have a say in the picking the roads that be would constructed in their areas under the 5-kilometer road project.

While stressing that road construction is key to easy movement of people, farm produce and other goods and services, Olabode stated that putting in place a good network of roads in all parts of the state would also improve economic activities and the standard of living of the people of the state.

The Commissioner emphasized that roads to be constructed would include the most paramount township roads, particularly those leading to public institutions, palaces, schools, churches, health centres, markets amongst others with a maximum of 500 meters in each ward of the Local Government Area.

Olabode who explained that Road construction was part of Infrastructural development which was one of the 6 pillars of the present administration lauded the initiative of the Governor in embarking on the construction of the 5-kilometer road projects an initiative which started under the immediate past administration stressing that uncompleted road projects under the previous exercises would be given topmost priority for completion under the programme.

Earlier in his remarks, the Ido Osi LG Chairman, Mr Bamidele Omoleye on behalf of other Chairmen commended Governor Oyebanji’s administration for the giant achievements recorded, especially in making township streets more beautiful and motorable, promising good maintenance of the roads and drainages.

He prayed for more success in the tenure of the present administration.

Present at the Community Engagement meeting were the Chairman of Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers who is also the , Olojudo of Ido Ekiti,Oba Ilori Faboro, Royal fathers,political appointees and council workers.
