Ekiti State Government has warned traders against displaying of goods on walkways in order to allow free movement of pedestrians.
The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Karounwi Oladapo gave the warning while speaking at a forum in Ado-Ekiti
Hon. Karounwi explained that walkways were constructed to give pedestrians space for passage and to avert accidents on the roads
“Walk ways are not for displaying of goods. It is meant for free passage of pedestrians to avoid accidents on the roads. It does not belong to shop owners”
He observed that some business owners display their goods indiscriminately on the walkway which prevent pedestrians from moving freely.
The Commissioner who frowned at this attitude, warned the perpetrators to desist from such acts stressing that whoever caught in the habit of displaying goods along the walkway would be made to face the wrath of the law.
According to him, Ado Ekiti, as the State Capital deserves to be well arranged and made beautiful to portray good impression of the whole state
He restated the commitment of the present administration to safety of lives and properties of the people adding that government was working round the clock to provide conductive environment for them.
He therefore solicited the support of the citizens for Governor Oyebanji led administration to enable it carry out its laudable objectives to make the state conducive for living.
