Ekiti Health Commissioner Commends FMC Ikole-Ekiti for performing complex knee surgery.

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Health and Human Services Ekiti, Dr Oyebanji Filani has commended the newly established Federal Medical Centre Ikole-Ekiti for the successful “total knee replacement surgery” performed in the tertiary health institution few days ago.

Dr Filani gave the commendation when he visited the Medical Centre for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation noting that the complex surgery was one of the first to be performed in Ekiti State outside of Afe Babalola Multi-System Hospital.

The Commissioner said that he had tasked the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti as well as Federal Medical Centre Ikole-Ekiti with identifying and excelling in specific subspecialties adding that this would ensure that Ekiti State becomes a health hub.

“Seeing FMC Ikole-Ekiti take this bold step towards specialised care is truly encouraging. Kudos to the team for this remarkable milestone”. The Commissioner applauded.

He reiterated the commitment of the State government to continue to strengthen the healthcare institutions in a bid to ensuring that Ekiti becomes a centre of excellence in medical practice.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Centre, Prof. Johnson Ogunlusi expressed appreciation to the Ekiti State government for providing an enabling environment as well as necessary support for the new Federal Medical Centre to take off and excel.
