….. as Health Commissioner highlights the importance of accurate data in decision making process
The Ekiti State government has stressed its readiness to establish Health workforce registries in all Health facilities across the state.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr Oyebanji Filani made this known during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting organised by Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and World Health Organisation (WHO) in Ado-Ekiti.
Filani stated that the State Health Workforce registry is designed to provide a single and reliable source on the number and distribution of healthcare workers across the state.
The Commissioner noted that the initiative would also ensure that the government makes informed and evidence-based decisions about healthcare workforce planning, training and resources allocation based on accurate data.
He assured the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare team of the State government’s commitment to always work with accurate and reliable data in developing its plans and policies.
In his remarks,the State Coordinator, World Health Organisation (WHO) Pharm. Akeem Busari stated that the initiative would not only ensure that the government makes accurate decisions based on available accurate data but would also guarantee easy accessibility of policy makers to reliable information about the workforce.
Pharm. Busari called on participants at the programme to mobilize their staff to ensure the success of the health workforce registries.
While presenting the meeting objectives, the team lead of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Mr Ayoade Olawale stated that the programme would strengthen data on human resources for health monitoring and accountability for national and regional strategies.
Mr Ayoade commended Ekiti State government for being one of the best states in Nigeria to have reliable data on their workforce and for also embracing the new initiative.
