The Ekiti State Government has announced that its monthly environmental sanitation exercise for the month of November will hold on Saturday, 30th November, 2024, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
A statement from the State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti said the theme for this month’s exercise, “Clean Environment, Healthy Living,” highlights the link between cleanliness and better public health outcomes.
The Commissioner called on residents to actively participate in the cleanup exercise noting that market women are expected to tidy their shops and stalls during the Thursday market sanitation, while government workers are expected to clean their offices and surroundings on Friday.
She stated that in order to give room for the ongoing 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (External), movement across the state will however not be restricted during Saturday’s sanitation period.
According to her, the adjustment was to ensure that candidates, supervisors and officials reach their examination centers without hindrance
Aluko-Ajisafe however stated that despite the expected relaxed movement, all markets and commercial establishments will remain closed during the exercise hours to ensure maximum participation.
She stressed that Environmental health officers, security agents, and NGOs will oversee the process to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
The Commissioner reiterated that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility, urging all residents to embrace the exercise.
She noted that a cleaner environment, not only promotes health but also ensures a safer and more sustainable future for everyone.
