The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has lauded the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, for his exemplary leadership qualities stressing that under the leadership of the Speaker, the Ekiti State Legislature has carved a niche for itself as the most productive State House house of Assembly in Nigeria
Speaking during a Retreat for Speakers and Principal Officers of Houses of Assembly in the South West Region held at Ikogosi Warm Springs and Resorts, Ikogosi-Ekiti themed: “Strengthening Governance and Collaboration in Southwest Nigeria,” the Governor extolled the virtues of Rt.Hon Aribasoye, describing him as a “precious asset in whom Ekiti is well pleased.”
He lauded the Speaker for fostering stability, innovation, and productivity within the Ekiti State House of Assembly, noting that under his leadership, the Assembly had been recognized as the most innovative and ICT-driven House of Assembly in Nigeria by the Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR)
Governor Oyebanji who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Habibat Adubiaro, noted that the Assembly also leads other State Houses Assembly across the nation in legislative productivity, having passed the highest number of laws within the last year and five months.
“The Ekiti people are very proud of the speaker’s accomplishments,” Governor Oyebanji remarked, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the executive and legislative arms in advancing the state’s prosperity agenda.
He also acknowledged the contributions of other Southwest Assembly speakers and reaffirmed the region’s leadership in human development indices due to such cooperative efforts.
The Governor highlighted the summit’s alignment with regional integration goals, reflecting on his role as the pioneer Commissioner for Regional Integration and Intergovernmental Affairs and in the establishment of the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission).
He expressed confidence that the summit would equip legislators with deeper insights into the benefits of intergovernmental collaboration and urged participants to forward actionable recommendations to the Southwest Governors’ Forum.
Governor Oyebanji extended his appreciation to the organizers for hosting the event in Ekiti and assured all participants of the state’s renowned hospitality.
In his keynote address at the forum, the Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie-Kalu, emphasized the critical role of cohesive legislative efforts in addressing challenges in the Southwest geopolitical zone.

He lauded the innovative introduction of national, regional, and state anthems at the event, describing them as unifying elements essential for fostering national cohesion and loyalty.
“When you sing the National Anthem, regional anthem, and state anthem, it brings unity, sets dreams, and provides focus. National cohesion and loyalty must begin from the grassroots, fostering unity from the bottom up”, he noted
The summit, attended by dignitaries including top legislative leaders, reaffirmed the Southwest’s commitment to collaboration and innovation in governance.
