Ekiti Govt. Stresses Commitment to Qualitative Education for PWDs

The Special Adviser to the Ekiti State Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Adetoun Agboola has said that the Oyebanji Administration would spare no efforts
towards ensuring that children with disabilities in the State have access to qualitative education that promotes their social integration and development

Agboola gave the assurance in Ado-Ekiti while receiving 60 school Bags and 1,000 Exercise Books donated to the three Special Schools in the State by a Non Governmental Organization, the Vocational Intervention and Services for Children and Adolescents with Disability (VISCAD) .

She disclosed that the Oyebanji Administration was using a multi pronged approach in the quest to transform the three special schools into centres of excellence where children with disabilities not only have world class education but also undergo the required therapies that will improve their well-being .

The Special Adviser explained that apart from the massive construction of classrooms, hostels, therapy rooms in the schools, the Oyebanji administration has also recruited the required personnel to teach the children and improve their capacity to be useful to themselves and to society.

According to Agboola, the Oyebanji administration had recruited therapists, converted seventy- four temporary staffs of the special school to permanent staff and upgraded the salaries of health workers, improving the learning environment of the students and many others thing aimed at improving the lives of the people with disabilities including children.

Earlier in her remarks, the Team Lead of Vocational Intervention and Services for Children and Adolescents with Disability (VISCAD), Mrs Evelyn Fayomi, said the Initiative is ready to provide comprehensive support and resource to children and adolescents with disabilities hence enabling them to reach their full potential by assist them to live independent, inclusive and fulfilling lives.

She also said that VISCAD Initiative is ready to provide children in special schools access to specialized services, including occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy, tailored to the unique needs of the children and adolescents with disabilities across the state.

Fayomi stressed that her organization would also provide psychological support, training and counseling services, addressing the emotional and mental well-being of children and adolescents with disabilities, including their families.

She therefore solicited for the collaboration with the State Government in many other areas including raising awareness and advocacy for children with disabilities.

Fayomi thereafter presented 1,000 Exercise Books and 60 school bags for the Special Schools accross the State.

Responding on behalf of the Special Schools, the Principal of The Special School for the Physically Challenged and mentally Disabled, Mr Abudu Karen Salami thanked the organization for the gesture.
