EKITI TAKES STEPS TO TACKLE FALL ARMYWORM INFESTATION IN CEREAL PRODUCTION.

…says available insecticides would go a long way to prevent yield loss

Ekiti Government has announced the availability of insecticides to tackle the recent outbreak of Fall Armyworm (FAW) infestation in cereal production in the State .

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade who made this known in a statement in Ado-Ekiti said that in line with the vision of the State Government to ensure food security, urgent approach was put up to manage the reported hike in the level of infestations, using holistic management strategies and controls of the invasive insect pest.

The Commissioner noted that Federal Government in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) had earlier directed States of the Federation to activate FAW Desks in order to find lasting solution to the maize insect pest capable of inflicting yield loss to the tune of 100% in maize plantations

According to Boluwade, the efforts of the State Government towards preventing food shortage and famine in the State are yielding positive results as the available Dichlovos FAW insecticide will go a long way to prevent yield loss and inadequate food supply in the state.

He therefore advised farmers in the state to access the available Dichlovos DDVP insecticide at any Agricultural Development Programme office in the State or they can contact the State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for further information.
