Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Dr (Mrs) Olabimpe Aderiye has advised parents, guardians and youths in the State not to perceive Technical and Vocational Education as inferior and only suitable for people who cannot excel in academics.
Dr. Aderiye who gave the advice in Ado Ekiti at a 3-day Induction Training Programme for 131 newly recruited instructors, education officers and junior workers of the State Board for Technical and Vocational Education, reiterated the commitment of the State Government to strengthening the six government owned technical colleges in the State towards enhancing skill acquisition and generating employment opportunities in the State.
Aderiye stressed that “vocational education caters to a diverse range of people with varied strengths and interests. It’s not just an alternative for those who may not excel academically; rather, it’s a pathway for individuals who have a knack for practical skills and hands-on learning”.
She said that the State Government recognizes the potentials of vocational courses and their ability to provide extensive and diverse career opportunities across various industries making graduates of Technical schools not only very employable buy also transforming them to possible employers of labour.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the State Teaching Service Commission, Mr. Sunday Boluwade added that vocational courses increase the number of small businesses, which further increase employment, thus reducing the dependence on the government’s white-collar jobs.

Stressing that the recruitment exercise that brought in the new staff was strictly based on merit to ensure that only the best were hired, Aderiye enjoined them to listen attentively and actively participate in the training workshop in order to gain maximally from the induction programme.
She emphasized the need for them to justify the confidence reposed in them with the employment and the huge investment in them by utilizing knowledge gained at the programme to impact knowledge on their students.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the State Board for Technical and Vocational Education, Dr. Babatunji Ajayi stressed the commitment of the Board to establishing partnership with relevant entrepreneurs, industries, and private sector for students’ internship Trainings and possible employment opportunities.
He disclosed that out of the 131 newly recruited staff that took part in the induction training programme, 56 of them are junior officers while the remaining 75 are instructors and education officers
