Ekiti SUBEB Boss Reiterates Government’s Commitment to Initiatives That Will Boost Standard of Basic Education

The Executive Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi has said that the State Government would continue to take proactive steps aimed at boosting the standard of the basic education in the state.

Prof Akinwumi gave the assurance in Ado Ekiti during the mid – year presentation of activities of the board by the Directors of Departments and Education Secretaries of the 16 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

He emphasized on various interventions by Governor Biodun Oyebanji – led administration towards improving the qualities and standard of basic education in the state which include the free and compulsory education policy of the state, payment of N1.3 Billion counterpart fund for execution of 2023 UBEC/SUBEB Intervention projects accross various public primary schools in the state.

Others are: recruitment of more teaching and non – teaching staff, training and retraining of teachers, procurement and distribution of instructional materials and ICT equipment, provision of welfare packages for teachers among others.

Prof. Akinwumi commended the management and the Education Secretaries on their record of achievements in the first half of the year, adding that their individual and corporate efforts within the period uner review have contributed to the progress of basic education in the state.

The SUBEB boss however called for more strategical planning by the top echelons to move the board forward and urged for synergy among the departments to achieve a common goal, stressing that the more cohesive the various sections are, the more united, strong and results – oriented the agency will be.

Prof. Akinwumi while responding to the LGEAs and departmental challenges many of which are unique pledged the readiness of the state government to solving the challenges within its limited financial resources.

He assured that more security guards will be employed and deployed to the state’s public primary schools to checkmate the worrisome activities of hoodlums and vandals who have taken over many school in attempt to frustrate the good intents of government on provision of infrastructures.

The SUBEB boss also charged the Education Secretaries to be more proactive and ensure continuous monitoring of the schools in their domains for optimal delivery of UBE programme, adding that the school agric business should be well monitored to make them profitable for the beneficiary schools and the government that committed huge financial resources for their execution.

The two – day programme is held twice a year to enable the directors and Education Secretaries present the activities of their departments and LGEAs as well as their achievements, challenges and the way forward all towards achieving the goals of the UBE programme.

In attendance were the SUBEB Commissioners for Project Management and Human Resources Management, Barr. (Dr) Kayode Adeoye and Dr. (Mrs) Funke Fajobi respectfully, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Afolabi Adebiyi, Deputy Directors and other members of staff.
