EKITI BUDGET COMMISSIONER, ADEBAYO INAUGURATES COMMITTEE ON STATISTICAL MASTER PLAN REVIEW.

Ekiti State Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Performance Management; Mr. Oyeniyi Adebayo has Inaugurated
the Joint Committee to review the Ekiti State Statistical Master Plan (ESSMP) 2025-2029 with a charge on members of the committee to deliver the master plan on time .

Speaking at the ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner also urged members of Committee which comprises the Central Working Committee and the Inter-Ministerial Sectorial Working Committee made up of Directors of Planning, Research & Statistics Department of some key MDAs to bring their wealth of experience into play by delivering a factual and workable document.

He commended the State Governor, Mr. ‘Biodun Oyebanji for promptly approving the joint Committee to review the Ekiti State Statistical Master Plan (ESSMP) 2025-2029 which is the domesticated policy document guiding the operations of the state statistical system both at the State and Local Govt levels.

He urged them to accommodate new innovations in methodology, tools and standardization of statistical best practices as the technology dictates just as it is in developed countries.

The Commissioner explained that the reviewed SSMP will map out strategies for strengthening the State Statistical system as well as promoting evidence-based policy design for planning and monitoring of growth, development and results-oriented initiatives at the State and Local Government levels.

He further noted that the ESSMP would provide a comprehensive and unified framework for assessing and meeting users needs on a continuous basis to articulate the coordination of strategies in the State Statistical system adding that the document contained five thematic areas covering: Institutional/Organizational Development; Human Resources Development; Data Development; Data Management/Dissemination Development; Infrastructure and Equipment with emphasis on ICT.

He added that the polished document would equally spell out the strengths and weaknesses in the State Statistical system with a view to leveraging on the strengths and fashioning out strategies to mitigate challenges as well as provide a precise roadmap for achieving the target set for the period.

In his goodwill message at the occasion ,the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Olusola Akinluyi appreciated the governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for his various efforts to ensure continuous production/generation of relevant, timely and robust data for policy making purposes in the State.

The Acting Statistician General, Mrs.Dolapo Ojo who noted that the review of SSMP was an effort in the right direction, commended the Commissioner for advancing the course of generating data and repositioning the Bureau for maximum productivity.

She recalled that the Office was existing in obscurity as a Department in the Ministry of Finance until the implementation of the SSMP in 2009 which recommended the establishment of the Bureau and the eventual signing of the Ekiti State Statistical bill in 2019.

She expected that the reviewed document in the next 5 years will: Improve data accuracy & timeliness, Foster a culture of data- driven decision making, and of course enhance the capacities of the staff.
Mrs Ojo charged the committee to deploy their competencies and display high level of professionalism in handling the assignment.
