Ekiti SUBEB Boss Asks Teachers To Sustain Growth in Basic Education Sector

The Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof Femi Akinwumi has called on teachers in public primary schools across the state to justify the huge investment by the administration of Governor Oyebanji in the sector by working assiduously towards sustaining the current growth of basic education in the state.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti during the official ceremony for the flag off of the 2022/2023 promotion interview exercise for public primary school teachers in the state, the SUBEB Boss reiterated government’s commitment towards provision of free and qualitative basic education for the state.

Prof. Akinwumi highlighted the various recent interventions of the state government in the basic education sector to include payment of over N1.2 billion counterpart fund to UBEC and the implementation of over 300 new infrastructural projects that will greatly impact the teaching/ learning environment of public primary schools across the state.

He added that no fewer than 1,500 new teachers were recruited to fill the existing vacancies in public primary schools as well as regular payment of salaries, allowances and running grants to the schools, training and retraining of teachers and procurement of 1,145 tablet computer devices for the teachers.

The SUBEB Boss who assured that the car and housing loans for the teachers are now ready for disbursement said that government will not relent its efforts at making life comfortable for them and maintain a conducive working environment to ensure teachers compete favourably with other public servants in the state.

Prof. Akinwumi noted that the approval of promotion arrears for the teachers is evident in Governor Oyebanji’s unalloyed interest for the teaching profession which has endeared him to the teachers with whom his immediate family shares the same professional career, hence the prompt payment of salary, allowances and other incentives.

He however charged the teachers to be more proactive and reciprocate the gestures through hard work and dedication to duties, stressing that they are part of major stakeholders in the implementation of the governor’s human capital development agendum of his administration.

The exercise which took place simultaneously in 5 different centers namely Ikere, Ido, Ikole, Aramoko and Ado Ekiti attracted no fewer than 4,000 teachers who were qualified for promotion from the over 915 public primary schools in the state.

Accompanying the chairman to monitor the success of the exercise are the Board’s commissioners for Project Management, Human Resources Management and the permanent Secretary; Barrister (Dr.) Kayode Adeoye, Dr. (Mrs) Olufunke Fajobi and Mr. Afolabi Adebiyi respectively as well as other Management staff of the Board.
