The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi has said that the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji would continue support initiatives that engender effective data collection in the basic education sector.
The SUBEB Chairman made the pledged in Ado-Ekiti while receiving the official instrument for upgrading of school basic data for 2023/24 academic year from the Department Planning Research and Statistics of the Board .
Prof. Akinwumi noted that up-to -date records, current duty posts of teachers and reliable enrollment figure of pupils are necessary for good planning, proper distribution of teachers as well as provision of infrastructure and distribution of instructional materials in schools.
He added that data upgrading according to the Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA) Programme would continue to strengthen the performance of both teachers and pupils whose needs will be adequately provided for by government once the basic information is gathered about their age, gender, classes and streams in Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE), primary and junior secondary school classes.
Akinwumi lauded the efforts of the Board’s Director of Planning Reseach and Statistics Mr Felix Ogunmodede and the staff, particularly at the Education Management Information System (EMIS) centre for coming up with a well designed instrument that will ease the collection of needed information from all the schools about their pupils and teachers.
He charged the officers to carry out the assignment with all seriousness and deliver in record time, noting that Governor Oyebanji has zero tolerance for delay of projects.
The instrument format consists of columns for LGEA, school, location of school, pupils enrollment by classes, gender and age as well as Teacher’s data which include gender, age and educational qualifications among other relevant information.
