
The Ekiti State Fire Service has rolled out emergency phone numbers for distress calls in event of fire outbreak or related disasters.
The numbers are 08035785164, 08039637328 and the ubiquitous 112.
The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun who made this known in Ado Ekiti, explained that the move is a proactive attempt to minimize the risk of fire outbreaks and totally prevent avoidable disasters.
Stressing the commitment of the present administration to the welfare of the people, fire prevention and safety of lives and property, Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun said that the State Fire Service would soon commence inspection of Government’s office building and other public structures to ensure that all fixed installations and safety equipment like fire and smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, rising mains, risers, sprinkler systems etc are in good order.

Olatunbosun emphasized that it is crucial to clear all bushes and undergrowth around building premises to ensure the safety of citizens, protect their lives and prevent fire outbreaks.
He advised Government officials to switch off or unplug all electrical appliances when leaving the office, especially air conditioners, inverters, etc; ensure that offices and homes are wired with standard cables and other electrical materials; avoid overloading sockets and electrical joints; refrain from indiscriminate use and dropping of lighted matches in the offices; avoid storing petrol and other inflammable materials in offices; and observe proper housekeeping rules in the office for fire prevention and safety.
