EKITI GOVT. PRESENTS PALLIATIVES AND MOSQUITO NETS TO RESIDENTS OF COMMUNITIES NEAR DUMP SITE

The Environment and Natural Resources Commissioner, Mrs Tosin Aluko–Ajisafe during the presentation of Insecticide-treated mosquito nets and cash palliatives to residents of communities around the dumpsite along Ilokun/Irasa axis in Ado-Ekiti

Ekiti State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Human services has held a health and sanitation awareness programme where cash palliatives and insecticide treated-mosquito nets were presented to residents of communities around the dumpsite in Ilokun/Irasa area of Ado Ekiti.

In her address at the event,the State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko–Ajisafe explained that the presentation of cash gifts and mosquito nets to the people of.the communities underscores the government’s commitment to the well-being of the people of the state irrespective of their religious, economic or political status

She highlighted previous efforts to make the environment in the communities safe to include the recent fumigation of the dumpsite and the clearing of the bush along the community’s road.

Commending Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s dedication to preventing epidemics and communicable diseases in the State, the Commissioner expressed gratitude for the support provided by Governor Oyebanji for the initiative.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Health and Human services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani outlined the programme’s objectives, which include sensitization and on-the-spot vaccination or children against childhood killer diseases.

Dr. Filani emphasized the broader goal of eradicating diseases from Ekiti communities and thanked the governor for facilitating the necessary support and logisticsnfor the programme.

In their different remarks, the permanent secretaries of the two ministries, Mr. Babatunde Alokan and Mrs. Olusola Gbenga-Igotun urged residents of the communities to prioritize cleanliness and avoid unhealthy and harmful practices in the day to day activities.

The Olulokun of Ilokun,Chief Akeem Adewumi, expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for extending palliatives to the community and pledged support for government initiatives.

The event also featured discussions on various health matters like nutrition, malaria, health insurance, tuberculosis/HIV, and the introduction of the women’s papillomavirus vaccine against cancer.

Among the dignitaries present were Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho, Director General of Community Communication, Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede, Director General of Ekiti Waste Management, Engineer Osalusi, General Manager of Ekiti Waste Management, Special Assistant on Flood Management, Mr. Fatai Jamiu and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Development Funmilola Adeyemi..
