
The Ekiti State government has inaugurated the State Emergency Medical Treatment Committee as part of steps to strengthen the state medical emergency Architecture.
Performing the inauguration in Ado-Ekiti, the State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani noted that the overall objective of the State Emergency Medical and Ambulance System was to ensure a consolidated emergency medical services and ambulance system that would provide quality, efficient and accessible transport and treatment services at no cost at the point of care across the State.
Dr. Filani said the State medical emergency was to establish an Information Communication and Technology (ICT) platform that would partner with the private health Sector to increase access to care, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality rate and improve healthcare outcomes.
He charged members of the committee to show a high level of commitment and deliver on their mandates as medical emergencies are delicate and serious issues that require urgent and sincere attention.Earlier in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Olusola Gbenga-Igotun called on medical practitioners and healthcare providers to always approach issues of medical emergencies with human-face.
“They should always strive to save lives first before any other consideration during an emergency”, she said.
Reacting on behalf of members of the Committee, the General Manager, State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Oludare Asaolu and the Director, Hospital Services and Training, Ministry of Health and Human Services, Dr Olumide Obe pledged their commitment to work with Term of Reference and deliver adequately on their mandates.
Membership of the committee was drawn from relevant Associations and Agencies such as Nigeria Medical Associations (NMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Nigeria Police, National Blood Transfusion Agency, Public Health Facilities/ Hospitals amongst others.
