EKITI TRAINS 350 SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN DIGITAL LITERACY

As part of the commitment of the administration of Governor Abiodun Oyebanji’s to Human Capital Development and expanding capacity building opportunities in technology and innovation, 350 secondary school teachers in Ekiti State have undergone a two-week digital literacy training programme facilitated by the State Ministry of Education through the World Bank-assisted Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment ( AGILE)project.

Speaking at the training programme held at Ikun Ekiti, the State Commissioner for Education, Dr Kofoworola Aderiye, emphasized that the initiative was designed to empower teachers to make a lasting impact on their students, aligning them with the broader vision of enhancing education in Ekiti State.

Represented by the Project Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Mrs Yewande Adesua, the Commissioner urged teachers to justify the government’s confidence in them by effectively applying the knowledge gained during the training in their classrooms.

She further encouraged them to organize mentorship programs for colleagues who are not ICT teachers, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve effective e-teaching in schools.
Aderiye added that beyond the training program, the government has provided essential digital devices, including laptops, smart boards, printers, photocopiers, and solar power energy solutions.

She noted that these tools are aimed at enhancing the digital learning experience in schools.

“Digital technology education empowers students by providing them with skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing digital world. Advances in technology have changed the way people interact and work, including teaching and learning. Ekiti cannot be left behind. We must transition from the traditional mode of learning to e-teaching and e-learning using various technologies.”
