EKITI GOVT. SET TO ESTABLISH OPERATIONAL CENTRAL CATTLE MARKET

Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade has said that a functional Central cattle market would soon be established under the State’s livestock subsector plans.

Mr. Boluwade who made this known in Ado Ekiti during a strategic planning meeting of stakeholders in the beef value chain, organized to fashion out solutions to identified problems, said that the creation of the cattle market would guarantee that only healthy on-hoof beef cattle and hygienic meat would be sold to the public adding that the development would also ultimately boost the State’s economy.

Speaking through the State Project Coordinator of Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES), Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, the Commissioner said the move would, in addition, strengthen abattoir operations in the State.

He described Cattle market as a profitable venture that would also create employment opportunities, particularly for the youths and attract investors.

“The cattle market provides an interesting investment opportunity, especially as the global population rises quickly and demand for beef increases daily”, he asserted.
Boluwade said the State Government would therefore upgrade the Cattle market along Iworoko Road in Ado Ekiti with modern facilities to make it one of the best in the Country.

In attendance were the Chairman of the Ekiti State Chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Mohammed Nasamu and the Chairman of the Ekiti State Chapter of the Cattle Dealer Association, Mallam Ayuba Ahmed.
